In Greene County district court Austin Jesse Forkner, 34, of Scranton was sentenced Feb. 2 to 180 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. All but two days of the jail term was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Forkner was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 surcharge; one-half of the fine and surcharge will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. Court costs were $100. Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Justin Ray Lopez, 24, of Jefferson, driving while license barred; and Dillon Wayne Davis, 24, of Glidden, operating while intoxicated- third offense. Trial dates were set for Feb. 28 in both cases.
Information is available since the return of arrest warrants that Brandon James Svaleson, 41, of Boone, and Katie Marie Wisecup, 31, of Ames have each been charged with fraudulent practice- third degree and gambling- avoid set off.
A case was initiated Jan. 28 against Anthony Marrell Banks, 44, of Ankeny on a charge of driving while license barred.
Juan Angel Guzman, 35, of Jefferson was arrested Feb. 2 in Texas on a Greene County warrant for probation violation.
Guzman violated probation in a case initiated in January 2020 in which he was charged with theft- second degree. Disposition in that case was entered in October 2020. He was again placed on probation in a case initiated in June 2020 in which he was charged with domestic abuse assault impeding blood or air flow. Disposition in that case was entered in March 2021.
In July 2020 a case was initiated against Guzman on charges of ongoing criminal conduct, forgery (six counts), and theft- fourth degree. The charge of ongoing criminal conduct and four counts of forgery were dismissed, but he was sentenced to five years in prison on the remaining charges in that case, with judgment entered April 26, 2021. However, according to court documents there was a miscommunication, and Guzman was not immediately taken into custody. He was informed the next day he needed to appear at the Greene County law enforcement center. A warrant for his arrest was then issued on a charge of probation violation, as he had failed to keep appointments in the earlier two cases. It was that warrant that was served Feb. 2 in Texas. A Greene County deputy went to Texas and brought Guzman back to Greene County.
